Playing On My TV

Method One: ChromeCast

(Check out our Help Section to see a video on how to install Chromecast on your TV)

ChromeCast is an easy, cheap way to put your movies and TV shows straight onto your Lounge TV.
You will need:

  • A ChromeCast device (available from most electrical retailers)
  • Any laptop or desktop or Android device with Chrome installed

How to Cast your movie or TV show to your TV - From your Computer:

  1. Install your ChromeCast following the instructions in the box,
  2. Ensure you have installed the Google Cast Extension in Chrome,
  3. Using Chrome on your Mac or PC, browse to the title you'd like to watch,
  4. If the title isn't free, select Rent or Own for the titles you'd like to watch,
  5. Complete the transaction process,
  6. Push the Play Button,
  7. Select the cast button in your browser once the play window appears on your device screen.

How to Cast your movie or TV show to your TV - From your Smartphone/Tablet or iDevice:

  1. Install your ChromeCast following the instructions in the box,
  2. While browsing around Focus on the Family in your web browser, select Rent or Own for the titles you'd like to watch,
  3. Install the our App onto your iPhone or iPad from either the Apple App Store, or Google Play Store,
    Focus on the Family is powered by the Good TV Network and your library and our free content will appear instanly in the app for you,
  4. Open the our App and login using your Focus on the Family username and password,
  5. Select the title you would like to play under 'My Library' or 'Free Content',
  6. Select the 'Cast' icon in the top right of your App interface,
  7. Select your ChromeCast Device,
  8. Press the Play button,
  9. Your title will then start to play on your TV.

Method Two: Apple TV AirPlay

Apple TV is another easy way to put your movies and TV shows straight onto your Lounge TV. You will need:

  • An Apple TV device (available from most electrical retailers)
  • Any iPhone, iPad or Mac Computer

How to play your movie or TV show to your Apple TV - Using AirPlay from an iPhone or iPad

  1. While browsing around Focus on the Family in your web browser, select Rent or Own for the titles you'd like to watch,
  2. Install the our App onto your iPhone or iPad from either the Apple App Store, or Google Play Store,
    Focus on the Family is powered by the Good TV Network and your library and our free content will appear instanly in the app for you,
  3. Open the our App and login using your Focus on the Family username and password,
  4. Select the title you would like to play under 'My Library' or 'Free Content',
  5. Push the Play Button and your title will start to play on the iPhone/iPad screen,
  6. Then to transfer the play from your device to the Apple TV, swipe up from the bottom of the device screen,
  7. Click the AirPlay button and select the name of your Apple TV. (If it doesn't appear, you'll need to ensure both your iPhone/iPad and Apple TV are on the same wifi network and  both setup correctly),
  8. Your title will then start to play on your TV.

How to play your movie or TV show to your Apple TV - Using Safari on your Apple Mac

  1. Ensure you are using the Safari browser on your Mac,
  2. Browse to the title you'd like to watch on Focus on the Family,
  3. If you haven't already (and it's not free), select either Rent or Own and complete the purchase process,
  4. Click play on the title (if it hasn't already opened after completing your purchase),
  5. Your title will start to play your Mac's screen,
  6. Then to transfer the play from your device to the Apple TV, click the AirPlay icon on the bottom right of the video player,
  7. Select the name of your Apple TV. (If it doesn't appear, you'll need to ensure both your Mac and Apple TV are both setup on your local network correctly),
  8. Your title will then start to play on your TV.

Method Three: Plug into your TV with an HDMI cable

In order to play on your TV you will need:

  • An HDMI Cable,
  • A Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter (If you are using an Apple computer),
  • A 3.5mm to 2 RCA AV Audio Cable (If your Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter does not support audio).
  • Please note: Some HD titles are not supported on HDMI connections which don't correctly use HDCP.

Plugging into a PC

  1. Plug the HDMI Cable into the HDMI port on your laptop,
  2. Attach the other end to the HDMI port on your TV,
  3. Go to settings on your TV and change input to HDMI,
  4. Go to Control Panel on your PC and Adjust Screen Resolution,
  5. Two displays should be visible; one of which will be disabled,
  6. Click the icon on the second display to ‘extend the desktop onto this monitor,’
  7. Remember to apply these changes,
  8. Adjust screen resolution until it looks right,
  9. To adjust the audio, open Control Panel and click Sound.
    • You should be able to see more than one device available, click the one which says TV or HDMI speakers.
    • Remember to check that the sound has not been muted.
    • Adjust both PC and TV volume to find the right volume level for you.

Plugging into a Apple Mac

  1. Plug the HDMI Cable into the Mini DisplayPort on your Mac,
  2. Attach the other end to the HDMI port in your TV,
  3. If your adapter does not have audio support, then plug the audio cable into the sound output of your Mac,
  4. Similarly attach the other end to your TV audio input,
  5. Go to settings on your TV and change input to HDMI.
